All I Have Asked, I Have Been Given

I was young, so naïve
Unaware of how we weave
Our thoughts, our talk, so much more
Slyly, it seeks only an open door
All I have asked, I have been given

Thoughts, they can be happy, also sad
Either way, yours and mine to be had
I’ve asked, then begged, yes also pleaded
But then warning signs I left unheeded
All I have asked, I have been given

I lie in bed, a life to envy
To have me tell it, it felt so empty
I prayed to Whom I did not know
But He heard and He did show
All I have asked, I have been given

He gave me my wish, took it all away
Though I regret it not, even to this day
That may sound harsh, I know it ought
But who I am today, I would be not
All I have asked, I have been given

In a bed of a different kind I lay
I pray a different prayer though on this day
I asked to have it back, ready I am
He said, “You are indeed ready my little lamb.”
All I have asked, I have been given

A lifetime to go, an open road
Choices, good; made today, the next lighten the load
He stands beside me each step of the way
So that tomorrow will be a better today
All I have asked, I have been given

In times past I asked for naught
Though mine to be had if only sought
There is nothing too big, nor even too small
To ask of the One who created it all
All I have asked, I have been given

He created both you and I, a tiny droplet
Though many are the plans He had from the outset
A droplet, yes, in a vast, endless ocean
And ready is He to give, if you only have the notion
All that you ask, you will be given

    1. I really appreciate your comment. When it was finally time for this to come out it flowed through my hands so smoothly. The arrangement of words actually brought tears to my eyes when I was done editing. Thank you so much.
